It would be very easy to get off the boat and sail/explore these islands for a couple of years; catch the 2020 World Cruise back to the U.S... Hmmm......
French Polynesia is many, many shades of blue & green, sunny, steamy, friendly and all things move on island time. Umbrella drinks are appropriate. Each island is a bit different. Nuku Hiva was sparsely developed/populated, Bora Bora by land, air and sea was bombshell stunning, Tahiti is the hub of French Polynesia and wasn't as imagined. My lasting memory of it will be car noise, traffic and crowds.
For Raiatea & Rangiora, the "word of the day" is atoll. An atoll, sometimes called a coral atoll, is a ring-shaped coral reef including a coral rim that encircles a lagoon partially or completely. Alternate definitions include: water lover's dream, diver's paradise, beach goer's Shangri-la.
